Description
A new No. 60 was built by Muni (1998) and went into service in 2002.
Historical note about old car No. 60: Built by John Hammond & Company for the California Street Cable Railroad Company in 1906, after the Earthquake and Fire of April 1906 had destroyed its cars. Hammond's shops (1907) were located at 820-836 7th Street, San Francisco. Originally No. 16, it was renumbered by Muni to No. 60 in October 1957. It was rebuilt in 1968-69, at Muni's Elkton shops, using the original roof and seats.

The one and only, and it has been so long. At the risk of being maudlin, it holds a very special place in my heart. Congrats re. artist of the week 1-11-22.

Great capture, Shoal! That earthquake must have been a total nightmare! We have only ever had one mild tremor in our neck of the woods, as a result of which my clarinet fell off a little table. Thankfully it was not damaged, but I always lie it down flat now.
